Ted's back ...

What's with that? No chattering, Ted! Not funny. Wheek! [Ted was one of the three pigs who were pulled from another shelter and fostered before going to my local shelter for adoptions. His brothers mellowed out after their mite treatment but Ted is still not too keen on strangers or stress so he's back here again. He seems to be fine here so in time I'll try him with a mellow older male or get him neutered and place him with a female.]

It's too hot here!

Turn the heater off now! They are melting. Call the ASPCA! Wheek! [An outdoor thermometer on a store display said it was 104 however I think it was really in the upper 90's. Unfortunately, my apartment is not insulated so it can get quite warm inside. Fans are running and bottles of frozen water were placed in cages but only Angelina would go near hers (the towel was taken off the bottle since she was trying to eat it).]

Daisy is not amused!

She wants out now! Wheek! [Daisy was in the 2' x 6' ex-pen and also in a blocked off area for a while. However, the cats decided that her large hay box made a cool (cat) liter box. I was not amused so now she and Lucky are caged side-by-side getting them ready for a bonding attempt.]

What's with the popcorning?

That's what I want to know? Is there a Piggy Olympics nearby? Call Piggy Info stat! [Rosie was moved into another cage today while she waits for Bif to heal from his neuter operation. She is now near the other pigs and was popcorning all over her cage and even jumped on top of her stool. The photo above shows Rosie in her cage that she came with and is after she arrived and had a bath and her cage was washed.]

Bif got a haircut

Why? Because it's toooooooooooooooooooooo hot that's why! Wheek! [It's rather warm here so I trimmed and layered Bif's long hair so he would be cooler. Now he almost looks like Rosie, the female who may be bonded with him in a few weeks.]

Rocky and Reggie got adopted!

Way to go! Wheek! [The shelter emailed me yesterday that they had been adopted to a fantastic family. Hopefully they will have a better life than they did with their previous caretakers. Ted is still waiting for his forever home and there are plans to try to bond him with another male or a spayed female.]

Fetch at 4:30am?

Dorita, get a grip! No playing when people are sleeping! Wheek! [Dorita loves to play fetch and it doesn't matter what time of day it is she's ready. If I am trying to sleep she will bring a crunched up post-it note or a crinkly cat toy and drop it on my bed by my face. I am then supposed to play fetch with her: toss it so she can retrieve the item and bring it back to me and start the process all over again ... forever! The photo above shows her playing with her toys last year when she was a kitten. ]

Bif is eating!

Yeah! I think he's going to be okay. Wheek! [Bif seems to be recovering nicely and quickly from his neuter surgery. Hopefully, things will continue to be uneventful for him and in a month he can be bonded with a female.]

Bif got neutered ...

I think he's sore! Get the meds stat! Wheek! [Various people had expressed an interest in adopting Bif. However, since no one ever followed through he was neutered so that he may live with one of the females here.]

Emma escaped!

Where is Emma? I want to know! Call the guinea pig police! Wheek! [Emma was in the basket waiting for her bath when she decided to escape and hide in a hut.]

The Texel is popcorning!

She was practicing her triple jumps today; Morka loves to be petted. Stay tuned for more photos and information when they are moved into their new cage later today.

The Cats are in Timeout!

Why? Because I said so! That's why. Wheek! [The cats were quite busy getting into mischief today. Dorita was bouncing off the walls and ... literally ... the top of the rabbit pen. Not to be let out, Molly decided to take a walk on the wild side ... the edge of the bath tub ... and slipped into the tub of water that was emptying out just as I was leaving for work.]

3 Muskateers are Ready for Adoption!

Ted, Sparky, and Reggie are now at the Marin Humane Society waiting for new homes. The three males were fostered for six weeks while they were treated for mites.

Guinea Pig Fun Website is Down

Apparently Tripod is having problems with their server (other websites are down as well). Hopefully the problem will be resolved soon. EDIT: It's back online now. :)

A box arrived!

And it isn't for me! What's with that???? Wheek! [I was asked if I would like to put a link on Guinea Pig Fun for Amanda's Gift. I ordered one of the beds and was surprised to see that there were several pads that arrived with the bed. They are perfect for using when I hold a guinea pig on my lap. Thank you, Beth and Michelle! For every bed sold JB's Legacy donates a pad to a rescued animal. More information about this amazing company may be found here.]

Capybara Madness: Capli Rous

Someone sent me a link this week to a video featuring Capli eating a Popsicle. Click the next link to view his amazing website Capybara Madness ... lots fun all over the place! The rest of Capli's videos may be found here. CLICK THE LINKS TO VIEW the webpages and be sure to click the back button in your browser if you wish to return to the GPF blog. Enjoy! :)

2 more baths and 2 more huts!

They love the huts! Wheek! [I checked Emma and Izzy for lice again to see if the Advantage helped get rid of them. It looks like Izzy may not have any lice but I think Emma still has some. She was given a bath with Gorgeous Guinea's Lice 'n Easy shampoo. Izzy is too young to use the shampoo so she was given a bath with Earthbath's Oatmeal and Aloe shampoo. Afterward they each got one of Jen's tunnel huts. They kept running in and out of them (they are open on both ends). Click the image of Emma to see one up close.]

Finally ... the 3 Muskateers got a bath!

Ted, one of the pigs being fostered for my local shelter, was finally given a bath today and he did well with it after a few minutes and did not shriek when picked up. He and his brothers were pulled from another shelter and have been treated seven times withe Ivermectin for a bad case of mites. This will be their last dose; their coats look great and they aren't scratching any more. Ted is still separated from his brothers, Sparky and Reggie, and will be placed separate from his brothers. As you can see in the photo, Willie is making sure that Ted eats his hay.

3 baths and how many more to go?

That's what I want to know! So far ... Bobby and Scooter and Ted. Any more? I think so! Wheek! [Since Emma has lice I am checking all of the pigs and treating them all whether they have lice or not. All of the cages are being cleaned and some pigs are getting baths. It's a lot of work but fortunately it's a warmer day so they can finish drying in their cages.]

Emma and Izzy have lice!

What's with that??? Call the guinea pig police, now! Kathy is not amused! Wheek! [Emma's former caretaker called to say that she thought Emma's babies had ear mites. I went to check them and it turned out that they have lice so they were given a dose of Advantage to hopefully get rid of them. I came home and checked Emma tonight and she and her new cage mate also have lice. I will also need to check Kylie and her cage mate since she used to be Emma's cage mate after the family bought them from a pet store. However, I most likely will just treat all of the pigs here tomorrow after I get more Advantage. Am I amused? No!]

Testing 1 - 2 - 3!

Why? Because I said so, that's why! Wheek! [TypePad is switching to a new look and format geared more toward networking so I am trying out this blog that I used for a short while. If I like it I will continue using it rather than Typepad.]
